Sold Out

Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is one of Canada’s most beautiful native trees. This species is found only in the East.

Beautiful Fact - The nuts, hulls, bark and wood are all parts of the tree that humans can use. They have many health benefits and many healing properties. Black walnut wood is a highly prized hardwood. Native Americans and early settlers used it for food, dyes, ink, medicine, fence posts, and furniture.

Fruits - Yields a ripened nut crop in early to mid-autumn. The fruit consists of three layers: a green, fleshy husk; a black inner shell that is hard, thick and corrugated; and the kernel, which is oily and sweet.

Black Walnut Ink Details -

Handcrafted from Ontario black walnut hulls that were foraged joyfully with friends from the different parks in Toronto. All of my inks are carefully handmade in small batches for use in my own nature journal and art practice. They had been simmered for hours to ensure deep colour and quality. They are perfect for complimenting watercolours or line drawings.

  • 1 oz (30 ml) ink , will send you in a unique old ink bottle

  • The colour is a rich sepia tone.

  • Natural inks are best used with brushes and dip pens and are not recommended for fountain pens.

  • It is recommended that the inks be kept out of direct sunlight and shaken before use.
