White Spruceis the official provincial tree of Manitoba.

Beautiful Fact - The wood is exported to Japan where it is known as "shin-kaya" and is used as a substitute for the rare kaya wood in the making boards for the popular game Go.

Leaves - The needles are green to blue-green in colour, stiff, square in cross-section and pointed, though not sharp. They release a pungent odor when crushed, hence the local name; Skunk Spruce.
