Beautiful Fact - Though tolerant of shade as a sapling, the Red Oak needs exposure to full sun as it ages, growing best when well separate from other trees.
Leaves - The dark green leaves β that turn a russet-red to bright red in autumn - can grow up to 20 cm in length and have 7 to 9 sharp, pointed lobes with bristly tips.
